Fiona Kelly’s speculative walking tour, The Vacant Building Appreciation Society, was initiated in Cobh, Co. Cork as part of a wider project See you tomorrow, curated by Elizabeth Woods & Kevin Leong at The Sirius Arts Centre.
The Vacant Building Appreciation Society is a community support organisation that recognises vacant buildings as receptacles of dreams - dreams of safety, of place, of purpose and vocation, of ways of habitation, of lives and living. It takes the form of a walking tour and invites participants on the tour reimagine speculative futures for empty properties and vacant spaces. The project aims to think about the nature of space and place making in contemporary Ireland, specifically in relation to the burgeoning housing crisis.
